NHL trade review: Flames acquire Lazar from Sens

The Calgary Flames have acquired winger Curtis Lazar and defenseman Mike Kostka from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for defenseman Jyrki Jokkipakka and a second round pick. Let\’s get into details.
The Flames saw that the Sens had Lazar, a prospect who looks like a bust so far, on their trading block. They\’re probably thinking a change of scenery is what he needs. I think giving up Jokkipakka, who was acquired last trade deadline from the Dallas Stars, was ok, but a second as well might cross the line, but no far. Kostka is a depth defenseman. Lazar should play in Calgary\’s next game. Lazar, 22, has 1 point (an assist) in 33 NHL games for the Sens this season. He had 4 points (3 goals and an assist) in 13 games for Binghamton (AHL) this season. He has 36 points (12 goals and 24 assists) in 176 career NHL games, all for the Sens. Kostka, 31, hasn\’t played in the NHL this season. He has 12 points (a goal and 11 assists) in 46 games with Binghamton (AHL) this season. He has 21 points (4 goals and 17 assists) in 85 career NHL games, with the Sens, the New York Rangers, the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Sens didn\’t need Lazar anymore. They traded for forward Tommy Wingels. They also traded for winger Alex Burrows. Also, winger Viktor Stalberg was acquired. Getting a 2nd round pick for him was key. Jokkipakka can play some D this year. Jokkipakka, 25, has 6 points (a goal and 5 assists) in 38 games this season. He has 28 points (3 goals and 25 assists) in 147 career NHL games for the Flames and the Stars.
