NHL news: Kings sign Toffoli to extension

The Los Angeles Kings have locked up right winger Tyler Toffoli, signing him to a three year extension. The AAV is $4.6 million, and $13.8 million altogether. It\’s a similar deal to what teammate and left winger Tanner Pearson got at 4 years, $15 million.

\”Signing both Pearson and Toffoli was a top priority for us this summer,\” Kings GM Rob Blake told the Los Angeles Times. \”Both are core players who will help us with leadership in the locker room and both can move forward with confidence knowing they will be here for years to come.\”

Toffoli, 25, scored career highs in goals (31) and points (58) in 2015-16, but a knee injury kept him to just 3 games in 2016-17, where he scored 34 points (16 goals and 18 assists). He\’s scored 175 points (84 goals and 91 assists) in 293 career NHL games, all for the Kings. They drafted him 47th overall (2nd round) in the 2010 NHL draft.
In his rookie season of 2013-14, Toffoli scored 14 points in 26 playoff games en route to a Stanley Cup victory.

With Pearson and Toffoli signed, that leaves defenseman Kevin Gravel and forwards Andy Andreoff and Nick Shore as the remaining unsigned RFAs for the Kings.
