MLB news: Phillies sign Santana, Neshek and Hunter

In a trio of signings, the Philadelphia Phillies have signed 1B Carlos Santana to a 3 year, $60 million deal, plus signed RHPs Pat Neshek and Tommy Hunter to two year deals.

Santana, the second best 1B on the market (Eric Hosmer), can help the Phillies, and be their best vet. The former catcher is a really good player to add. Hunter and Neshek are good middle inning relievers at a cheap price.

Santana, 31, had a .259 batting average, 23 homers and 79 RBIs in 667 Plate Appearances for the Cleveland Indians in 2017. In his MLB career, all in Cleveland, Santana has a .249 batting average, 174 homers, and 587 RBIs in 4782 Plate Appearances.

Neshek, 37, had a 1.59 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 69 strikeouts in 62.1 innings for the Phillies and Colorado Rockies last year. He represented the Phils in the all-star game. In his MLB career for the Phillies, Rockies, Houston Astros, St. Louis Cardinals, Oakland Athletics and Minnesota Twins, Neshek has a 2.75 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 447 strikeouts in 445.2 innings.

Hunter, 31, had a 2.61 ERA, .97 WHIP and 64 strikeouts in 58.2 innings for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2017. In his MLB career for the Rays, Baltimore Orioles, Texas Rangers, Indians and Chicago Cubs, Hunter has a 4.13 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 510 strikeouts in 769.1 innings.
