The New Jersey Devils have acquired forward Patrick Maroon from the Edmonton Oielrs in exchange for a third round pick and prospect J.D. Dudek.
For the Devils, they are in the playoff hunt. Maroon is a top nine winger that will help their forward core. He\’s a rental, and they don\’t give up too much for him.
Maroon, 29, has scored 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points in 57 games for the Oilers this season. In his NHL career for the Oilers and Anaheim Ducks, Maroon has scored 75 goals and 90 assists for 165 points in 358 games.
For the Oilers, they trade a rental in Maroon, who won\’t help them for the rest of the year. Maroon did say he\’d re-sign with Edmonton after the season (even after the trade). They don\’t get too much for him, but it won\’t matter if they sign him. Dudek is a college prospect who\’s rights were only dealt.
Dudek, 22, has scored six goals and 11 assists for 17 points in 33 games for Boston College this season.
I think the Devils win this trade. They get a solid winger who should cost more in an increased market, which affects every trade made this year. That\’s why they win.
