MLB trade review: Yankees acquire Hechavarria

The New York Yankees have acquired SS Adeiny Hechavarria and cash considerations from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for cash considerations.

For the Yankees, Hechavarria is just fielding depth for late innings. He is one of the best defensive infielders in the league, and is one of those \”defensive replacement\” guys.

Hechavarria, 29, has a .254 batting average, four homers and 29 RBIs in 284 Plate Appearances for the Pirates and Tampa Bay Rays this year. In his MLB career for the Pirates, Rays, Miami Marlins and Toronto Blue Jays, Hechavarria has a .255 batting average, 26 homers and 236 RBIs in 2967 Plate Appearances.

For the Pirates, Hechavarria is pretty much useless to them. They get some money for him, and a spot for prospect Kevin Newman to play. That\’s about it.
