The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired winger Nino Niederreiter from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for center Victor Rask.
For both the Hurricanes and the Wild, they swap struggling players. The Canes get a winger, and the Wild get a center, which is what both teams needed more. While Niederreiter is older, he has a shorter term deal than Rask, and is getting paid $1.25 million more a year. But, Niederreiter has had a better 2018-19.
Niederreiter, 26, has scored nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points in 46 games for the Wild this season. The best year in his career came in 2016-17, when he scored 25 goals, with 32 assists for 57 points in 82 games. In his career for the Wild and the New York Islanders, Niederreiter has scored 112 goals and 119 assists for 231 points in 498 games.
Rask, 25, has scored one goal and five assists for six points in 26 games for the Hurricanes this year. The best year of his career came in 2015-16, with 21 goals, 27 assists for 48 points in 80 games. In his NHL career, all in Carolina, Rask has scored 63 goals and 100 assists for 163 points in 339 games.
