MLB Trade Review: Giants acquire Gennett

The San Francisco Giants have acquired 2B Scooter Gennett and cash from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for a player to be named later.

Gennett became a star in his first two seasons in Cincinnati, but has been hurt almost all of this year, and has struggled in 20 games since returning. He is a free agent at the end of the year, which also hurt his stock. The Reds have seen rises from Jose Peraza, Jose Iglesias, Derek Dietrich and Nick Senzel this year, so they dealt Gennett. We don\’t yet know who they get in return, so it is hard to dictate a winner.

Gennett, 29, has a .212 batting average with no home runs and five RBIs in 69 Plate Appearances this year. In his MLB career for the Reds and Milwaukee Brewers, Gennett has a .287 average with 85 homers, 354 RBIs and 24 stolen bases in 2841 Plate Appearances.
