MLB Trade Review: Twins acquire Dyson

From USA Today

The Minnesota Twins have acquired RHP Sam Dyson from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for OF Jaylin Davis, RHP Prelander Berroa and RHP Kai-Wei Teng.

The Twins are good this year, and could use bullpen help. Dyson might not close for them, but he will be a very good seventh or eighth inning guy. They trade three prospects, but get him without giving up a top 30 prospect.

Dyson, 31, has a 2.47 ERA with 47 strikeouts in 51 innings, along with two saves for the Giants this year. In his MLB career for the Giants, Texas Rangers, Miami Marlins and Toronto Blue Jays, Dyson has a 3.29 ERA with 302 strikeouts and 59 saves in 375.1 innings.

The Giants were shopping their relievers, and Dyson and Mark Melancon got dealt. They don\’t get any top 30 prospects, but they do get three guys, so…. quantity over quality?

Davis, 25, has a .298 batting average with 25 homers, 67 RBIs and nine stolen bases in 424 Plate Appearances for AA Pensacola and AAA Rochester. In his minor league career, Davis has a .270 batting average with 67 homers, 227 RBIs and 32 stolen bases in 1693 Plate Appearances.

Berroa, 19, has a 4.55 ERA with 37 strikeouts in 31.2 innings for the Appalachian League Twins this year. In his minor league career, Berroa has a 3.96 ERA with 94 strikeouts in 91 innings.

Teng, 20, has a 1.60 ERA with 49 strikeouts in 50.2 innings for Single-A Cedar Rapids this year. In his minor league career, Teng has a 2.51 ERA with 96 strikeouts in 93.1 innings.
