MLB Trade Review: Phillies acquire Dickerson

The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired OF Corey Dickerson from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for a player to be named later and international signing pool bonus money.

Dickerson is a good defender in the outfield, but his power has fallen, while his average has risen. He has had injury issues this year, and has played in just 43 games. He is a good bench player for the Phillies, and they don\’t trade a lot for him.

Dickerson, 30, has a .317 average with four homers, 25 RBIs and one stolen base in 141 Plate Appearances this year. In his MLB career for the Pirates, Tampa Bay Rays and Colorado Rockies, Dickerson has a .285 average, 107 homers, 336 RBIs and 23 stolen bases in 2776 Plate Appearances.

The Pirates are selling, and Dickerson is a good piece to sell, but they don\’t get too much. The PTBNL could be good, and the international money could become a good player, but we aren\’t sure what they get yet.

MLB Trade Review: Nationals acquire Strickland

The Washington Nationals have acquired RHP Hunter Strickland from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for LHP Aaron Fletcher.

The Nats are improving their bullpen, and this is the third reliever trade of the day, acquiring Daniel Hudson and Roenis Elias, the latter also from the Mariners, so the trades may be combined. Strickland has been hurt almost all of this season, but just came back.

Strickland, 30, has allowed three runs in 3.1 innings this year (8.10 ERA) with three strikeouts and two saves. In his MLB career for the Mariners and San Francisco Giants, Strickland has a 2.98 ERA with 214 strikeouts in 229.1 innings, plus 21 saves.

The Mariners have barely even used Strickland this year, as he has been hurt. They get Fletcher in return. Fletcher was the Nats\’ 21st best prospect, per MLB Pipeline.

Fletcher, 23, has a 1.79 ERA with 69 strikeouts in 60.1 innings for AA Harrisburg, High-A Potomac and Single-A Hagerstown. In his minor league career, he has a 2.17 ERA with 103 strikeouts in 91.1 innings.

MLB Trade Review: Brewers acquire Pomeranz

The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired LHP Drew Pomeranz and RHP Ray Black from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for IF Mauricio Dubon.

I have no idea what the Brewers are doing. Black and Pomeranz are not good pitchers, though Pomeranz does have an impressive strikeout rate. Dubon is their third best prospect, though he isn\’t a top 100 prospect. Pomeranz could be moved to the pen, based on his K/9, which is 10.7 in 21 games (17 starts).

Pomeranz, 30, has a 5.68 ERA with 92 strikeouts in 77.2 innings for the Giants this year. In his MLB career for the Giants, Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres, Oakland Athletics and Colorado Rockies, Pomeranz has a 4.09 ERA with 779 strikeouts in 787.2 innings.

Black, 29, has allowed one run in two innings (4.50 ERA) with five strikeouts this year. In his MLB career, Black has a 6.04 ERA with 38 strikeouts in 25.1 innings.

The Giants have no use of Pomeranz and Black, and they get a highly ranked prospect in return. Sounds good to me. He made his MLB debut this year, but didn\’t get a hit, going 0 for 2.

Dubon, 25, has a .297 average with 16 homers, 47 RBIs and nine stolen bases in 427 Plate Appearances for AAA San Antonio this year. In his minor league career, he has a .299 batting average with 42 homers, 276 RBIs and 126 stolen bases in 2495 Plate Appearances.

MLB Trade Review: A\’s acquire Roark

From USA Today

The Oakland Athletics have acquired RHP Tanner Roark from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for OF Jameson Hannah.

The A\’s could use starting pitching help, and while they did get Homer Bailey from the Royals earlier this month, Roark is significantly better than Bailey. He is a free agent at the end of the year. He is a decent third or fourth starter.

Roark, 32, has a 4.24 ERA with 108 strikeouts in 110.1 innings for the Reds this year. In his MLB career for the Reds and Washington Nationals, Roark has a 3.66 ERA with 840 strikeouts in 1045.1 innings.

The Reds get a decent return for a pending free agent with an ERA over 4.00. Hannah was Oakland\’s 8th best prospect, per MLB Pipeline. He hits for average and can steal some bases.

Hannah, 21, has a .283 batting average with two homers, 31 RBIs and six stolen bases in 414 Plate Appearances for High-A Stockton. In his minor league career, the 2018 2nd rounder has a .282  batting average with three homers, 41 RBIs and 12 stolen bases in 509 Plate Appearances.

MLB Trade Review: Nats acquire Elias

The Washington Nationals have acquired LHP Roenis Elias from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for RHP Elvis Alvarado and LHP Taylor Guilbeau.

Elias has taken on the closer role for Seattle, and despite a high ERA, he has succeeded 14 times. He has two more years of arbitration after 2019. He will help the weak Nats bullpen that already traded for Daniel Hudson. Elias is also left handed.

Elias, who turns 31 tomorrow, has a 4.40 ERA with 45 strikeouts and 14 saves in 47 innings for the Mariners this year. In his MLB career for the Mariners and Boston Red Sox, Elias has a 4.02 ERA with 323 strikeouts and those 14 saves in 385 innings.

The Mariners get a decent haul for Elias, as Guilbeau is the Nats\’ 15th best prospect, and Alvarado isn\’t top 30, per MLB Pipeline. Elias has a bad ERA this year, and the team is rebuilding, but they\’ll need to find a new closer. They get a decent return since his amount of years with control.

Guilbeau, 26, has a 2.89 ERA with 50 strikeouts in 43.2 innings for AAA Fresno and AA Harrisburg this year. In his minor league career, he has a 4.05 ERA with 300 strikeouts in 342 innings.

Alvarado, 20, has a 6.00 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 15 innings for the Gulf Coast Nationals. In his two year minor league career he has a 6.28 ERA with 32 strikeouts in 28.2 innings
