The New York Rangers have acquired defenseman Adam McQuaid from the Boston Bruins in exchange for defenseman Steven Kampfer, a 4th and 7th round draft pick.
For the Rangers and Bruins, this is a depth defenseman trade. Kampfer wasn\’t needed by the Rangers, and won\’t be needed by the Bruins, but they get picks too. McQuaid could be a starter for the Rangers, which is an upgrade to being the Bruins 8th defenseman.
McQuaid, 31, scored one goal and three assists for four points in 38 games for the Bruins in 2017-18. In his NHL career, all in Boston, McQuaid has scored 13 goals and 53 assists for 66 points in 462 games.
Kampfer, who will be 30 in two weeks, had one point, an assist, in 22 games for the Rangers in 2017-18. In his NHL career for the Rangers, Bruins, Minnesota Wild and Florida Panthers, Kampfer has scored 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points in 166 games.
